iXBRL electronic filing and block extensions

Hong Kong profits tax filing service — read on, then see exactly what we handle and what it costs.

From 1 April 2026, tax representatives must submit block extension applications electronically through the Tax Representative Portal (TRP); as a rule the Inland Revenue Department will no longer accept paper block extensions. Entities of multinational enterprise groups must file their profits tax returns electronically from the year of assessment 2025/26 onwards.

The iXBRL upload process

  1. Generate iXBRL financial statements from your accounting system or a conversion tool
  2. Reconcile the figures against the audit report
  3. Upload through eTAX or the designated channel
  4. Keep the acknowledgement and the validation report

How this connects to your bookkeeping and filing

Disorganised account classification leads directly to mis-tagged iXBRL. It is worth having one team handle both your Hong Kong accounting service and your iXBRL financial statement preparation.

The cost of being late

Failing to submit in the required electronic form can be treated as failing to file properly. A first return generally cannot be extended; extensions become available in later years, applied for through a tax representative.
